Beyond the Vortex Star Trek: TNG 25TH Anniversary Week

Shields up! Red alert! Computer discontinue simulation. Beyond the Vortex Sci-Fi Club of Clarksville, TN will be hosting a Star Trek week in honor of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s 25th Anniversary. On July 21st at Beyond the Vortex at 7:00 p.m., we will have a prequel event where the group will watch the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies at Freedom Deli.

The festivities officially begin on Monday, July 23rd with a lead up to the event at Get Some Coffee at 6:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., we will head over to the Great Escape for the screening of Star Trek: The Next Generation specials, which will start airing at 7:00 p.m. Get Some Coffee is located at 3862 Trenton Rd., Suite C, Clarksville, TN.

The following Saturday, July 28th at Freedom Deli at 8:00 p.m., we will be watching miscellaneous Star Trek episodes and / or movies. Some fan based movies may also be available for the group to watch. Beyond the Vortex looks forward to seeing you during Star Trek: The Next Generation event and for Star Trek week in July!

Doctor Who returns August 27th on BBC America

The second half of the 6th series (we call them seasons here on our side of the Pond) of Doctor Who will begin on August 27th on BBC America. Of course, we’ll be there to catch it at Beyond the Vortex!

We’re planning on a special “Series 6 Part 1″ marathon — probably the week before – Or, at least showing the last couple episodes so everyone can get caught up. After all, we don’t want any of our friends left out in the dust!

Be sure to join us at Freedom Deli every Saturday night at 8:00 for another fun night of sci-fi and fantasy! What will happen next time…

It is with great sadness that we have to report that the actress Elisabeth Sladen – forever known to us as the Doctor’s best friend, Sarah Jane Smith – has died. The news, which was broken on Twitter earlier today, has since been confirmed via Twitter by Doctor Who Magazine and by BBC News.

Doctor Who Premiere Party on April 23rd

Attention all Whovians! Beyond the Vortex will host a Doctor Who Premiere Party on April 23rd at Freedom Deli! We’ll get started just a few minutes before the show’s premiere at 8:00 p.m.! Come join us as we celebrate the beginning of the 6th series of Doctor Who!

Okay, we know, it’s actually the 32nd series… not counting the 1996 movie… Or the 2nd series since Moffat took over. Egad! It’s so confusing!

So come in your British best… stay tuned for more announcements at possible prizes or contests…

Beyond the Vortex club to meet on Saturday Nights

Our humble little sci-fi/fantasy fan club, Beyond the Vortex will meet on Saturday Nights from now on, giving our members something to look forward to every week! So be sure to join us starting at 8:00 p.m. every Saturday night at Freedom Deli!

Also, make plans to join us for the premiere of series 6 of Doctor Who, the long-running British sci-fi show, starring Matt Smith as the Doctor. Plenty of new monsters are in line for the new series, and showrunner Steven Moffat has promised that we’ll learn who River Song is this year!

Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy now in iBooks

When Apple announced their new iPad last year, it was clear that this device would be as close as any doodad could be to the fabled Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Heck, there are even leather cases available for the iPad.

Alas, one of the many books that were not available to iBooks readers was Douglas’ Adams long-running classic bit of Sci-Fi comedy. But wait, true believers! Arthur Dent, Ford, Marvin and the gang have finally come home to roost in their electronic goodness!

Now if it would only come with a Babel Fish…
